Election Night and Vote Count

After a buzzing day of campaigning, the polls closed at 10pm. We began the night with G&Ts in the Castle MCR before heading to a large sports hall to the North of Durham. With Blue Spark pumping through our veins, we adjudicated the vote-counters as box after box of ballots were poured onto the tables.

And whislt the hubbub of the counting was ensuing the rolling BBC news coverage was quietly playing away in the background as seat-by-seat the country was turning blue.

The result was announced shortly after 4am:

1 - LAB: 21596 2 - CONS: 10157 3 - UKIP: 5233 4 - LD: 5153 5 - GREEN: 2687

We had wiped the Lib Dems out of second place and achieved the best Conservative result in Durham since 1992! It's a long road from here, but the process whereby a Labour safe-seat can be gradually overturned is in swing!
